MILWAUKEE – One week removed from handily defeating both (RV) St. Thomas and Concordia Moorhead, the (RV) MSOE hockey team had Northland in their crosshairs on Friday evening. While the game was marred with penalties, the Raiders still came away victorious by the score of 3-1.
Northland – 1
(RV) MSOE – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
(RV) MSOE (3-0-0) controlled the pace in Friday evenings contest even if they ended up in the sin bin eight different times for a total of 16 minutes. Matt Hanewall kicked off the scoring at 9:39 in the first period with an unassisted snipe to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead. That was the lone goal in the first period, which started somewhat of a trend for the Red & White. MSOE scored a single goal in each period, with the second one coming via a David Marabella shot that was set up by Evan Kearns and Nigel Nelson. Northland (0-1-0) cut the Red & White lead in half with a goal at 5:59 in the third, but the Raiders would ice the game when Kevin Shand and Adam Czarnecki teamed up to allow Kyle Herbster to put the biscuit in the basket with under five minutes left to play. Shots were about even with MSOE leading the category 24-23 and each power play was dormant in the Raiders third straight win to open the season.
WHO'S ON DECK
Northland and the Raiders will be right back at it tomorrow night, with the opening faceoff from inside the Kern Center taking place at 7:05 pm.
