MILWAUKEE, Wis. – MSOE was looking to get back into the win column against Dubuque on a perfect Saturday afternoon. Avenging their loss to St. Norbert was going to be a tough task against a Spartan team with only one loss to their name, one that they were not able to accomplish in their 1-0 loss.
Dubuque - 1
MSOE - 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half in today's contest was a scoreless affair, but still one that kept the fans at Viets Field interested. The eight shots between MSOE (2-2-1) and Dubuque (4-1-0) were in the favor of the Spartans 7-1, but MSOE used their defensive skills to make sure goalkeeper Ron Marchionna didn't have to make any unspectacular saves.
In fact, besides one other opportunity in the second half, the Spartans shots were pretty routine for the Raiders netminder. Even the one shot that trickled in should have been stopped, but the Red & White defense overplayed it to allow the Spartans to chip in for the first and only score of the game. MSOE turned up the pressure with about 10 minutes remaining but a few good looks went for naught in the shutout defeat.
The back-to-back shutouts posted by St. Norbert and Dubuque is a rare feat when playing MSOE. The last time it happened was against Aurora and Dominican during the 2015 season.
