MILWAUKEE - The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced its major awards and all-conference teams for the 2019 men's soccer season this morning, with all awards being voted on by the league's head coaches. The Raiders are represented well amongst this group, with a total of four players being recognized as some of this season's best.
The lone MSOE student-athlete on the first team was junior Joey Schauer. Schauer was second in the NACC with 14 goals scored this season, as well as holding down that same spot with his 33 total points. Schauer paced the Raiders with a total of 60 shots this season, 35 of which found their way to the opposing goalkeeper. Schauer also went 3-4 in penalty kicks and is the owner of four game winning goals during the 2019 campaign. This is Schauer's second straight first team honor.
Lucas D'Amato and Drew Baumann highlighted the second team for MSOE. D'Amato was named to the second team in back to back years thanks to a performance that saw the junior tally seven goals, including one game winner this season. Though he didn't have any assists, he proved to be a versatile two-way player that helped lead the Raiders defensive efforts. Baumann, who was an honorable mention during his freshman campaign, was right behind D'Amato with five goals and three assists, good for a total of 13 points. It was the seniors highest scoring season, as he ends his career with eight goals and nine assists, good for 25 points.
Rounding out the list is keeper Ron Marchionna. A first team member during his freshman year, Marchionna still made the list for the second straight time, this time as a member of the third team. Don't let that fool you, however. The sophomore keeper was fourth in the league with just 18 goals allowed and third overall with a 1.17 goals against average. He stopped 65 shots that came his way, good for a .783 save percentage, and has already entered the career top five in both total saves and minutes played.
