MADISON, Wis. – Freshman Sara Travia scored her team-high 13th goal of the season, but Edgewood responded with a pair of unanswered goals as the MSOE women's soccer team fell in its regular season finale to the Eagles 2-1 Wednesday evening at Breese Stevens Field.
The Raiders (10-9, 7-4 NACC) settle for the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament and will play at Concordia Wisconsin Sunday in the First Round. Meanwhile, the Eagles (14-3-1, 10-1 NACC) closed out a regular season co-championship they share with Aurora.
MSOE got on the board first on a goal in transition in just the sixth minute. Sophomore Aly Loepfe played a lead pass down the right side for Travia, who beat the keeper. Her 13 goals and 30 points this season lead the team, as well as all NACC freshmen.
EC managed to pull level midway through the opening frame on a penalty kick by Jenna Mineau to send the game into halftime knotted at 1-1. It was the first of two Mineau goals on the evening for the home side.
Mineau got her second goal and the eventual game-winner in the 69th minute on a corner kick. Haley Gaines sent her corner right in front of the goal where Mineau was to put it away from five yards out.
The lead held as MSOE was unable to find the equalizer. Both teams took seven shots in the match, while each keeper made two saves on the night. Sophomore Margot Giesey made a pair of first-half saves for the Raiders, while Tori Fratney stopped a pair of shots after the intermission.
