Previous College: Concordia Wisconsin, 1997

Overall Record: 144-127-13 // NACC Record: 85-33-4

Rolf Zersen wrapped up his 13th season as head coach of the MSOE women's soccer team, having led the program to its third-straight championship season.

After transforming the program into a consistent winner, he has now propelled the Raiders into regular title contenders in the NACC with a pair of NCAA Tournaments on their resume. Last season, the team battled a top-heavy non-conference schedule before going 9-1 in conference play to snare a second-straight regular season league title. MSOE also played in its third-straight NACC Championship.

Before that, the 2017 team had the most successful season in program history, breaking a school record for wins in a season for the second-straight season, going 10-0 in the NACC, and winning a second-straight league tournament championship. The Raiders won a then-record a school-record 15 games in 2016. After finishing third in the conference standings, Zersen led the team to its first NCAA Tournament with a thrilling 5-4 win in overtime of the NACC Championship.

The recent success was a long time coming for the Raiders under Zersen but was not unexpected. He led the program to its first winning season in 2007, sparking a streak of 11-straight winning seasons, including at least 10 wins in each of the last 10 campaigns. The team's record over that time is 131-85-11 (.601).

Zersen has been named the NACC Coach of the Year three times (2017, 2016, 2007) and coached five player of the year honorees: Offensive Player of the Year (2012, 2016); Defensive Player of the Year (2016); and Freshman of the Year (2014, 2017). Forty-six players have earned All-NACC honors since the Raiders joined the conference in 2007, including 23 players selected to the All-NACC First Team.

He took over the program in 2004 after three seasons as an assistant on the MSOE men’s staff, inheriting a program that was just one year removed from not fielding a team in 2002 to regroup. He added two wins to the team’s total in his first season.

Three years later in 2007, the Raiders posted their first winning season at 9-7-3, which came in MSOE’s first in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The team has posted an all-time NACC record of 66-32-4 (.667) and qualified for the conference tournament each season.

Prior to joining the Raiders’ men’s side in 2001, Zersen started his collegiate coaching career at Concordia Texas in 1996.

Zersen has his National and Advanced National diplomas from the NSCAA.

Zersen played collegiately at conference-rival Concordia Wisconsin. He was a three-year starter and team captain for the Falcons, earning All-Lake Michigan Conference honors as a senior. His head coach at CUW was former MSOE Athletic Director Dan Harris. Zersen continued to play competitively after college with local clubs Bavarians, Croatian Eagles, and Mequon United.

Zersen graduated from Concordia Wisconsin in 1997 with his degree in history and education. He was previously the head of the history department at Milwaukee Lutheran High School for 14 years. He served as head coach of the MLHS girls’ soccer team for eight years, while also spending a year as the boys’ JV coach at Germantown High School and three in the same capacity at Muskego.

In addition to his coaching duties at MSOE, Zersen is also the director of camps and clinics. The Raiders’ teams and coaches offer camps in six different sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, softball and the successful Power Plus Hockey Camps.

Rolf and his wife, Leslie, have two children, Olivia and Aiden.
