MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's volleyball headed to the campus of Mount Mary in Milwaukee to play their final two weekend games of the season. While the Raiders didn't have much luck against Robert Morris, they smashed Holy Family College (formerly Silver Lake) to close out the short one day invitational.
Robert Morris (Ill.) – 3 (25, 26, 27)
MSOE – 0 (23, 24, 25)
Holy Family College – 0 (9, 6, 15)
MSOE – 3 (25, 25, 25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (9-20, 3-8 NACC) just couldn't quite get over the hump against Robert Morris (6-20 NAIA) in game one on Saturday morning. Each match was settled by only two points, which extra tallies needed to close out the second and third sets. The Red & White had a higher hitting percentage overall, but that figure was skewed thanks to the first set where they hit .212. The Raiders held the edge is all but two categories, one of which contributed to their loss. The Eagles had nine service aces compared to MSOE's four in the straight sets loss for the Raiders.
Match number two on the day was a much different story. Holy Family College (3-23 NCAA DII) was absolutely demolished out on the court by the Red & White. The Raiders put together a hitting percentage of .368, outkilled their opponents 36-6, and put together 18 service aces. Holy Family wasn't even able to get into double digit points until the third set where they scored 15. It was an all around team effort that helped put the brakes on a brief two game losing streak.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders finish off the 2019 season when they take on Lakeland on Wednesday in Plymouth, Wis. starting at 7:00 pm.
